PowerPoint can be used as a tool for teachers to create visually content rich presentations with multimedia. The purpose of this program is to make electronic slide shows. One prominent critic is professor Edward Tufte. PowerPoint can have educators better consider theories and applications such as constructivisme-learningcognitive theory and memory.

The original name for the program was to be called "Presenter". Prior toall PowerPoints were linear. PowerPoint '97 incorporated the ability to make non-linear transitions without users having to learn programming [5]. PowerPoint presentations consists of "slides" or pages. On each slide a user can place text, graphics, movies, sound or other types of multimedia. The presentations can be printed or viewed on a computer. The computer can transmit the information to an overhead projectorSmart board or online webcasting programs, such as Elluminate Live.

Teachers can use PowerPoint in many applications in their classroom. Teacher have a choice for how much or how little they would like to apply this technology to their classrooms. PowerPoint can be used in the classroom in many ways. Students can learn how to use PowerPoint and apply their knowledge in many ways.

When students learn PowerPoint they also gain valuable tech skills. When creating an effective PowerPoint presentation, plan your presentations like a story, with a beginning, middle and end. Create visuals on the slides that go along with what is being presented.

Effective presentations do not have a lot of text, nor do they have flashing text and other annoyances. According to Isseks [7] there are some serious considerations one should make to insure their PowerPoint presentations are effective: remove many bullet points, don't waste time on fancy transitions and sound effects, most importantly keep the classroom lights on.Is PowerPoint still effective when you need to deliver a presentation?

Yes, we believe PowerPoint is still effective. In fact it has never been so effective. PowerPoint has been around for a very long time. And it has been used in presentations thousands of times. There is a figure out there that says 30 million presentations are delivered daily. I am not one for spouting crazy figures and I will admit that it does seem a bit extravagant. But could you imagine the amount of people sat in front of 30 million PowerPoint presentations.

Yes, it is an effective tool but only if use it right. You would not use a hammer to paint a wall. Or hiking booths to run a marathon. You should always use PowerPoint the way it is meant to be used. Follow our 6 Mistakes to avoid when creating a presentation and you will survive. So far, I have only answered question loosely. PowerPoint allows you to control the flow of a presentation. Recently we talked about the benefit of creating dynamic content.

This is something that is great but there will always be time when you want to control the flow of the conversation, as you know which way the conversation should go.

There is no point in looking at Z before you touch on A and so on. You can also control the theme and setting for your talk. Using colours will allow people to see the importance of what you are saying.

Using images and videos will help portray your message alongside what you say. If you have a screen with a presentation on it. Then the audience will look at it.

There is no doubt about that. But it is important that you put the right content onto your slides. Having a slide full of text will bore your audience and stop them from listening to you as they will want to read as opposed to listen.

Using singular words and graphics allows your audience to build a picture in their mind while you speak.

Student Assessment in Teaching and Learning

Because they have a fuller picture in the mind they will remember it more. Steve jobs, the master of presenting, always had a slide. When he announced the iPhone. He ran through three images before merging them into the iPhone. Steve Jobs could not have done this with the slides.

He could not have done this with just words. You too can make anything look good when it is on a slide. Pictures taken in the right light with the perfect shadows. Images photoshoped to bring out extra glare. If you have a big presentation to deliver and you are a little bit nervous the presenter view can help you.Slideshare uses cookies to improve functionality and performance, and to provide you with relevant advertising.

Professor Follow. Published in: Education. Full Name Comment goes here. Are you sure you want to Yes No. Zokhidjon Vakhidov. Ashitha Varghese.By Michael R. Fisher, Jr. In their handbook for course-based review and assessment, Martha L. Stassen et al. Student assessment enables instructors to measure the effectiveness of their teaching by linking student performance to specific learning objectives. As a result, teachers are able to institutionalize effective teaching choices and revise ineffective ones in their pedagogy.

The measurement of student learning through assessment is important because it provides useful feedback to both instructors and students about the extent to which students are successfully meeting course learning objectives.

For Wiggens and McTighe, assessment enables instructors to determine the metrics of measurement for student understanding of and proficiency in course learning objectives. They argue that assessment provides the evidence needed to document and validate that meaningful learning has occurred in the classroom.

Student assessment also buttresses critical reflective teaching. She works from a position of informed commitment. There are generally two forms of student assessment that are most frequently discussed in the scholarship of teaching and learning. The first, summative assessmentis assessment that is implemented at the end of the course of study.

Summative assessment is comprehensive in nature and is fundamentally concerned with learning outcomes. While summative assessment is often useful to provide information about patterns of student achievement, it does so without providing the opportunity for students to reflect on and demonstrate growth in identified areas for improvement and does not provide an avenue for the instructor to modify teaching strategy during the teaching and learning process. Maki, Examples of summative assessment include comprehensive final exams or papers.

The second form, formative assessmentinvolves the evaluation of student learning over the course of time. Formative assessment includes course work—where students receive feedback that identifies strengths, weaknesses, and other things to keep in mind for future assignments—discussions between instructors and students, and end-of-unit examinations that provide an opportunity for students to identify important areas for necessary growth and development for themselves.

Brown and Knight, It is important to recognize that both summative and formative assessment indicate the purpose of assessment, not the method. Different methods of assessment discussed in the next section can either be summative or formative in orientation depending on how the instructor implements them. Sally Brown and Peter Knight in their book, Assessing Learners in Higher Education, caution against a conflation of the purposes of assessment its method.

Brown and Knight, Indeed, feedback and discussion is the critical factor that distinguishes between formative and summative assessment. Below are a few common methods of assessment identified by Brown and Knight that can be implemented in the classroom.

The goal of implementing self-assessment in a course is to enable students to develop their own judgement. In self-assessment students are expected to assess both process and product of their learning. While the assessment of the product is often the task of the instructor, implementing student assessment in the classroom encourages students to evaluate their own work as well as the process that led them to the final outcome.

It enables students to develop transferable skills in other areas of learning that involve group projects and teamwork, critical thinking and problem-solving, as well as leadership roles in the teaching and learning process.

Things to Keep in Mind about Self-Assessment. Peer assessment is a type of collaborative learning technique where students evaluate the work of their peers and have their own evaluated by peers.

This dimension of assessment is significantly grounded in theoretical approaches to active learning and adult learning.

Things to Keep in Mind about Peer Assessment. According to Euan S. Henderson, essays make two important contributions to learning and assessment: the development of skills and the cultivation of a learning style.

Henderson, Essays are a common form of writing assignment in courses and can be either a summative or formative form of assessment depending on how the instructor utilizes them in the classroom. Examinations have traditionally been viewed as a gold standard of assessment in education, particularly in university settings. Like essays they can be summative or formative forms of assessment. As Brown and Knight assert, utilizing multiple methods of assessment, including more than one assessor, improves the reliability of data.Education plays an essential role in society, creating knowledge, transferring it to students and fostering innovation.

Modernization is a process of socio-cultural transformation. It is a thorough going process of change involving values, norms, institutions and structures. According to the sociological perspective, education does not arise in response of the individual needs of the individual, but it arises out of the needs of the society of which the individual is a member. In a static society, the main function of the educational system is to transmit the cultural heritage to the new generations. But in a changing society, these keep on changing from generation to generation and the educational system in such a society must not only transmit the cultural heritage, but also aid in preparing the young for adjustment to any changes in them that may have occurred or are likely to occur in future.

The diffusion of scientific and technical knowledge by modern educational institutions can help in the creation of skilled manpower to play the occupational roles demanded by the industrial economy. Other values like individualism and universalistic ethics etc can also be inculcated through education. Thus education can be an important means of modernization.

The importance of education can be realized from the fact that all modernizing societies tend to emphasize on the universalization of education and the modernized societies have already attained it. In the ancient days, education was concentrated to one particular group. But with the modernization of education, now everyone has access to education, irrespective of their caste, religionculture and economic background.

The impact of modernization can be seen in the schools also. The modern day schools are fully equipped with technically sound devices that help children develop their expertise in a more lucid manner. Effective facilities provide barrier-free access for individuals with disabilities, are free from health and environmental hazards, offer adequate space for students and teachers, and are equipped with appropriate technology for classroom and instructional use.

As teaching methods change, buildings may also need to change to accommodate them. Current teaching models require more flexibility in class spaces than the one classroom model. Students working together in small groups, for example, can use the shared spaces between classrooms in some of the newest elementary schools in the district. You should also inform your decision with the potential differences in prediction costs. If you use a simple model and a small set of input instances, you'll find that there is a considerable difference between how long it takes to finish identical prediction requests using online versus batch prediction.

It might take a batch job several minutes to complete predictions that are returned almost instantly by an online request.

7 reasons why PowerPoint is still effective to use in presentations

This is a side-effect of the different infrastructure used by the two methods of prediction. Cloud ML Engine allocates and initializes resources for a batch prediction job when you send the request. Online prediction is typically ready to process at the time of request.

Cloud ML Engine measures the amount of processing you consume for prediction in node hours. This section describes these nodes and how they are allocated for the different types of prediction.

It's easiest to think of a node as a virtual machine (VM), even though they are implemented with a different mechanism than a traditional VM. Each node is provisioned with a set amount of processing power and memory. It also has an operating system image and a set configuration of software needed to run your model to get predictions.

Both online and batch prediction run your node with distributed processing, so a given request or job can use multiple nodes simultaneously. You are charged for total node usage by the minute, using an hourly rate.

For example, running two nodes for ten minutes is charged the same as running one node for twenty minutes. Online and batch prediction allocate nodes differently, which can have a substantial effect on what you will be charged. The batch prediction service scales the number of nodes it uses to minimize the amount of elapsed time your job takes.

To do that, the service:Scales the number of nodes during the job in an attempt to optimize efficiency.

Each node takes time to get started, so the service tries to allocate just enough of them so that the startup time is countered by the reduction in elapsed time.

You can affect the scaling of a batch prediction job by specifying a maximum number of nodes to use. You generally want as many nodes as the service will use, but node usage is subject to the Cloud ML Engine quota policy.

You may want to limit the number of nodes allocated to a given job, especially if you share your project with others and potentially run jobs (both training and prediction) concurrently. The online prediction service scales the number of nodes it uses to maximize the number of requests it can handle without introducing too much latency.
